In Guayadeque you eat inside the rock. People lived in the caves of this deep ravine on Gran Canaria long before the Spanish conquest, and today some of its restaurants are carved into them.
Many of them serve Canarian classics such as papas arrugadas with mojo, gofio escaldado and conejo en salmorejo. Several have views down the ravine, and the cave dining rooms feel cosy and out of the ordinary.
Two of the best known are Restaurante Grill Guayadeque and Restaurante Tagoror, both serving good local food.
It makes a memorable lunch stop on a day out in Gran Canaria.
