Güímar is best known for its stepped pyramids and for the wide valley that shares its name, where vines climb the slopes. Its guachinches pair that local wine with traditional home cooking in a relaxed, family atmosphere.
Most menus include gofio escaldado, conejo en salmorejo and papas arrugadas with their mojo, along with a few dishes from the area. Prices are very fair too.
Guachinches matter a great deal to how Tenerife eats, and some of the best are in Güímar. If you're on the east side of the island, it's worth turning off the motorway.
