Few places in Tenerife have a stronger guachinche tradition than San Juan de la Rambla, a small municipality on the north coast. Menus here stick to the island's most typical dishes.

Guachinches started out as a way for farmers to sell their own produce directly, and over the years they've grown into proper eateries with a wide range of local dishes and wines. Here that means cochino frito, pork chops, conejo en salmorejo or escaldón de gofio.

For Canarian food cooked the old way, San Juan de la Rambla is a good place to go.
