On the dry south-east side of Tenerife, well away from the resorts, the quiet municipality of Fasnia has guachinches that people from the area actually go to. They serve home-style Canarian dishes with local wine.

Gofio escaldado, conejo en salmorejo and papas arrugadas are the regulars, with more besides. Prices are reasonable and families are made welcome.

Fasnia has some good guachinches, part of a tradition that runs right through Tenerife. If you're driving along the south-east coast, it's worth stopping for lunch.
